Rewriting Game of Thrones – Season 8, Episode 2

I’ve been trying to work out what might be a better way to finish the series Game of Thrones. Whilst I have not watched the series, I’ve heard what has happened, and using lots of fans’ comments from various places, pierced together some ideas and concepts.

I thought this would be an interesting challenge, to end a story I pretty well know nothing about. I doubt I can do worse than the showrunners! So, here is my efforts, at least the first part of them…

Episode Two

Episode two would have some small inclusions. It centres around adding a character. This is for certain reasons, which might become clear later.

Brienne of Tarth ends up having a shock, when she is walking about Winterfell. The air suddenly shimmers, and then a blue haired young woman appears, wearing deep red leather armour. She is twirling, and is poised with a sickle, ready for anyone following her. All there is, is the air looking like splintered glass, before shrinking back into itself. Brienne is drawing sword, making the blue haired woman. Turn to face her. There is a brief fight, and Brienne quickly has her on the floor. She points her sword at the woman, and demands to know who she is, and what manner of devilry the Night King is enacting now.

She says simply “Mellisandre. Mellisandre de Luna,” before waving her free hand in the air, as she struck Brienne’s sword aside. In the process, Brienne’s sword flies out of her hand, it is spasming. Brienne stares at her hand in shock, seeing it still spasming. More finger waving, and Mellisandre is back on her feet. Brienne looks shocked, as she finds herself stuck. Her feet feel glued to the floor. Mellisandre is moving out of reach, and is looking around. She mutters that she has not been here before, then picks up Briennes’ sword, and awkwardly hands it back to her. She comments that it is really heavy, as she whispers something. Brienne finds herself free.

Mellisandre is looking about, as if trying to sense or detect something. She looks to Brienne, and asks if there is a war coming, or something. She can feel a power, something immensely powerful. Brienne sizes her up, and then asks her to follow her. She wants to introduce her to a few people. The blue haired woman agrees.

She is introduced to the others who have banded together to fight the Night King. Mellisandre now has a long flowing red velvet cloak, and her staff out from it’s fastening on her back. It is made of wood, with a blue crystal on the end, the wood curving around it, like roots around a stone. She looks at Bran, eyebrow raised. She introduces herself, and the others to her. Brienne explains why Then, she is told everything, and her face becomes very, very serious. She tells them she has been in wars before, but this was much, much more. There are tears in her eyes. She says that this is a war against death, a fight that cannot be won. It’s madness.

They tell her that The Night King might be working for the Lord of Death, and this news has Mellisandre’s eyes widen. She shakes her head, and looks at the door, eyebrow raised. “It’s madness. Death will surely come for everything…” she starts to go for the door. Bran tells asks her about the children, what their fate should be. Then, she stops, looks at them, and looks to the floor. Bran then says “Nham,” to the confusion of the assembled. She looks as if she might start crying, just from hearing that one word. Tyrion is watching all of this, eyes narrowing slightly.

Mellisandre’s shoulders slump, and an expression is on her face, that being guilt. She closes her eyes tightly shut, and shakes her head. Resigned, she walks back to them, and says she’ll help them. She’ll stand and fight with them. Tyrion suggests that she has a nickname, to differentiate her from Meliesandre. Melisandre suggests “Sulla,” which gets de Luna’s attention. She says she’s never been called that. “Not yet.”

She opts to simply get on with helping with the plan to end the menace. With her input, they create a plan, where they use Bran as a lure. Multiple trenches to be made, and also ballistas on the towers. The whole plan is to slow down the enemy, and contain them enough to destroy their forces. Daenarys and Jon will be on the two dragons, to attack the rear, and stop the enemy from retreating, or regrouping. The Sulla hopes that their efforts will be enough…

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

There is a reason for introducing the Sulla, to serve narrative purposes later on in the rewriting. In my retelling, the Night King is a very powerful character, and I need ways to demonstrate this fact. She will be very handy for this, particularly when we get to Episode Four of this.

Please feel free to leave any thoughts or comments on this I am hoping that this can give the fans of the series a better conclusion, and closure.
